“Emma” is set in the near future when the sex industry has moved into tv and become the number one industry in the world. Naturism, which derives from today’s nudism, has become a driving force in the culture with even the government allowing some employees to work unclothed. Emma, the protagonist, is a researcher, a producer, and then a presenter for Harlot TV, one of the leading sex television channels. The story centers around Emma’s flat and the activity there although many scenes are written in the studio, at restaurants, and at other residences. Like any quality science fiction Stoke creates his world through character development and detail. I found myself able to immerse myself into his futuristic culture.

Emma is only one of the characters Stoke brings to life. Equally important, her closest friend, Charlotte, actually dominates the narrative. And their shared lovers, Harriet, Susan, Josephine, Maisie, Fatima, and many others. They even have sex with men! Many of the characters work in the sex tv industry and have sex as part of their jobs. All of the characters have sex frequently and often including exhibitionism, voyeurism and group sex. Since Harlot TV is leading edge in this sexually promiscuous future its controversial content includes children and incest which it portrays in non-controversial ways so as to be able to broadcast it within the rules. Many of the older characters still have their mind set with today’s sexual attitudes providing generational conflict and a foot on the ground for today’s readers.

Stoke’s projections are reasonable and believable. In fact many sub cultures today already practice much of the life style presented. If you substituted internet sex industry for sex tv industry and wrote some of the public nudity out the story could be read as contemporary rather than futuristic. I think clearly the trends in internet sex entertainment will permeate other media and become a factor in mainstream media. Whether the near future is as extreme as what Bradley Stoke postulates we’ll have to wait and see. My guess is that our actual future will hold surprises far beyond those predicted in “Emma”.

I believe this is a work in progress. Stoke has published new chapters just this month and I anxiously await more. His writing is clean and even. It is very easy to get absorbed into this world. Don’t hesitate to jump over to his story and take a little trip with me. His ideas are already coming into play in my Chat Box where we live in a fantasy world anyway. I am particularly attracted to his ideas about girls wearing strapon dildos and have started to keep one handy. It surprised me how many guys come in to my chat box wanting their asses fucked. In many ways Stoke’s ideas are on target today. I am sure you will enjoy this entertaining piece of fiction.

Bradley Stoke has posted several more chapters of his novel Emma on thevelvetplayground.com. Stoke has created a complex possible world where the sex industry and sex TV in particular are his central focus. The first 40 chapters left me aching for more and I am so happy to see him posting more of this fantastic work. In fact he has me shuddering in orgasm time and again with his well developed and believable characters.

Stoke has several other novels on The Velvet Playground including Innocence and Alice In Wonderland but Emma is my favorite for believability and complexity. Not to mention that his sex scenes are unsurpassed.

Stoke is masterful at transitioning from social commentary and personal reflection into totally uninhibited sex and then back again in the blink of an eye. I’ve enjoyed all of his writings and I am certainly overjoyed to have more of Emma.
